This Saturday I went for an 11-km hiking tour in the MacRitchie Reservoir Park with a couple of friends. Despite the grey weather, I absolutely loved it. MacRitchie is a great destination to reconnect with nature, exercise, or just stroll along the serene waters of the reservoir.
The park is very easy to reach via public transportation. I now have another favourite sort in Singapore.
Kayakers and canoeists in the reservoir waters. NUS Canoeing Club trains here also.
Entering the TreeTop walking train. The guard is off guard :).

On top of the world
Here in the equatorial zone you can enjoy listening to a vast variety of exotic birds.

Don’t miss TreeTop walking trail if you are at MacRitchie!
Taking a long climb up after the TreeTop walk …
… and then a long climb down.

Next stop along the hiking trail: Jelutong Tower.

We have a guest 🙂
Remnants of the dam construction from the British times.
Serene reservoir waters
The Singapore Island Country Club golf course. I have never understood this sport, or rather activity. I guess it’s rather a social status marker.
Golf-players along the way. The Club entrance and membership fees are dazzling.
No golf for us, but nice views are available.
View on the reservoir
We have also completed the 11-km circle around the reservoir. A nice park is located at the other side of the lake.
Beautiful and quiet
Memorial statue to the Major-General Lim Bo Seng, Singapore’s resistance fighter and war hero. MacRitchie was his favourite park. One of the guys in our small company, who did the Singapore National Service, performed a military saluting ritual at this spot. He explained that all soldiers commemorate Lim Bo Seng once here.
There are many macaques in the park. This one looks like have come off a horror movie :).

Hi! How are you?
We have now completed our hike around the Reservoir and reached a nice green zone at the entrance.
Final look at the MacRitchie Reservoir.
In the city: gigantic tomatoes at Ang Mo Kio district (one translation is the “Red Tomato”).
And gigantic coconuts also at the MRT station 🙂
